The Cape County Tea Party will host Rachel Payton of Americans for Prosperity-MO at its monthly meeting Tuesday at the Cape Girardeau Public Library, 711 N. Clark Ave.

Americans for Prosperity is a grassroots organization with 34 state chapters, focusing on economic freedom and limited government, according to a news release from the Cape County Tea Party.

Payton will speak about the organization's Path to Prosperity initiative and its 2015 Legislative Scorecard.

She holds bachelor's degrees in history and political science, and started working on political campaigns in 2000. She worked in U.S. Rep. Kenny Hulshof's district office and for a public-policy law firm in Jefferson City, Missouri.

In 2012, Payton began working for Americans for Prosperity, rising in 2014 to become deputy state director. In her position, she "continues to lead lobbying efforts, direct social media strategies and coordinate grassroots outreach," the news release said.

The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m.
