BENTON, Mo. -- Mary Helen Halter, 92, of St. Louis, formerly a longtime resident of Benton, passed away Friday, Aug. 14, 2015, at Bethesda Southgate in St. Louis. She was born March 30, 1923, in Sikeston, Missouri, to the late Roy Henry Sr. and Blanche Delia Jones Wagner. Mary and Alfred A. Halter were married Sept. 2, 1947, at Benton. BENTON, Mo. -- Mary Helen Halter, 92, of St. Louis, formerly a longtime resident of Benton, passed away Friday, Aug. 14, 2015, at Bethesda Southgate in St. Louis.

She was born March 30, 1923, in Sikeston, Missouri, to the late Roy Henry Sr. and Blanche Delia Jones Wagner. Mary and Alfred A. Halter were married Sept. 2, 1947, at Benton. He preceded her in death Sept. 26, 1978.

She was a graduate of Sikeston High School. She worked as Benton's city clerk, as well as in the office of the Scott County Soil and Water Conservation District. Mary also was a Girl Scout leader for many years.

Survivors include her three daughters, Mary Ann (Don) Johnson of St. Louis, Elizabeth Jane (Daniel) Scherer of Fairview, Tennessee, and Emma Lou (Eddie) Brewer of Jackson; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers and a sister.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Benton Funeral Home.

The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with John Hart officiating. Burial will be at St. Denis Church Cemetery in Benton.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Alzheimer's Association.
