Martha Lucille "Lucy" Bennett, 80, of Jackson died Tuesday, Aug. 18, 2015, at the Monticello House in Jackson.

She was born May 17, 1935, in Lynnville, Kentucky, to Jesse and Resa Mae Underwood Pickard. She and James Bennett were married Aug. 4, 1951, in Corinth, Mississippi.

Lucille's mother passed away in June 1937 and her father in February 1983. She was raised by her grandmother Ida Mae Neely. Her husband, James, passed away Nov. 4, 1983.

Lucille worked 25 years as a cashier for Wards Big Star and four years for Sam's Club, both in Cape Girardeau.

She was an active member of Bethany Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau, where she worked with children in the nursery and vacation Bible school.

Survivors include a daughter, Resa (Alan) Ervin of Jackson; two granddaughters, Michelle (Joseph) Edgell of Vandalia, Ohio, and Rebecca (David) Holter of Cape Girardeau; a great-grandson, Jacob Holter of Cape Girardeau; and a great-granddaughter, Hayden Edgell of Vandalia.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with Dr. Shawn Wasson officiating. Burial will be at Pleasant View Cemetery in Fulton, Kentucky.

Memorial contributions may be given to Bethany Baptist Church.
