The Jackson Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration are working together to offer a prescription drug takeback day.

Proper disposal of expired, unused or unwanted drugs helps prevent pill abuse and theft, said a news release from the police department.

People may bring pills for disposal from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 26 to the Jackson Police and Fire Complex at 525 S. Hope St. Liquids and needles will not be accepted; only pills or patches.

The service is free and anonymous, with "no questions asked," the news release said.

The Jackson Fire Department also will participate in the event, offering child safety-seat checks at the same location. Trained seat installers will perform the checks at no cost, reviewing the seats for proper installation and functionality.
