Robert Childs Evans Jr., 71, of Cape Girardeau died Monday, Sept. 7, 2015, at Saint Francis Medical Center. Robert Childs Evans Jr., 71, of Cape Girardeau died Monday, Sept. 7, 2015, at Saint Francis Medical Center.

He was born Oct. 31, 1943, in Fort Riley, Kansas, to Robert Childs and Mary Giboney Frissell Evans Sr.

He was a member of Christ Episcopal Church. Robert had been a sportswriter for several newspapers, including the Southeast Missourian.

Survivors include a son, Robert Childs Evans III of Orange County, California; a daughter, Amy Ottman of Hallam, Nebraska; three brothers, William Evans of Bonne Terre, Missouri, Patrick Evans of Cape Girardeau and Louis Evans of Scott City; a sister, Molly Evans of Cape Girardeau; and five grandchildren, Anthony Evans, Gabrielle Evans, Christina Ottmann, Gwendolyn Ottmann and Stefanie Ottmann.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the mausolem at Cape County Memorial Park in Cape Girardeau.
