William Moyers

William Thomas "Billy" Moyers, 39, of Cape Girardeau, passed away peacefully Saturday, Sept. 19, 2015, in Benton, Missouri, after a lengthy struggle with liver disease.

Moyers was born July 27, 1976, in Cape Girardeau to Charles Moyers and Martha Robertson, who both preceded him in death. Moyers also considered Vicky Moyers, who married his father when Billy was just 11 years old, his mother.

Moyers, Billy to his friends, attended Cape Girardeau schools until he joined his father's floor-installation business, where he worked alongside his dad for nearly 20 years. Friends remember Billy as being likeable, quick-witted and easy going. Billy delighted in making other people laugh.

Billy would have been the first to admit he struggled with personal demons throughout his life. But his time on earth was not wasted -- friends say Billy contributed to their lives in many ways with his humor, his generosity of spirit and his kind soul.

He will be greatly missed.

Billy was very proud of his daughter, Janie Scroggins of Cape Girardeau, who survives. Billy recently had become a grandfather with the arrival of Silas Lee Scroggins. He also is survived by his mother, Vicky Moyers; three brothers, Scott Moyers, Pat (Ramsey) Moyers and Trent Tanchek, all of Cape Girardeau; and a sister, Delanie (Bud) Finley of Chaffee, Missouri, as well as his many loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two grandmothers, Iva Middleton and Shirley Hobbs.

The family will receive friends at 10 a.m. Saturday for a memorial service at First General Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau. The pastor, Sam Ramdial, will officiate.
