Xi Nu Phi Chapter

The Xi Nu Phi Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi met Sept. 15 at the office of Red Letter Communications. The meeting was hosted by Sandy Ross.

Susan Benton, president, led the meeting with nine members present. The minutes from the previous meeting were approved as read.

Sheryl Smith was welcomed back after her leave of absence.

Debbie Balsano passed out the social calendar for the year. The next social will be a bonfire/wiener roast on Oct. 18 at the home of Renee Hesselrode.

Benton reported on the city council meeting held Sept. 2.

The Beginning Day banquet was enjoyed by all who attended.

Any chapters interested in the Adopt-A-Park are to contact Lambda Omicron.

Approximately 230 people will attend the state convention Oct. 9 through 11 in Cape Girardeau. Extensive discussion was held regarding the convention and making final preparations. The program involved assembling favors for the convention.

FCE Lamplighter Club

Gayla Volz was hostess and gave the devotion for the September FCE Lamplighter Club meeting. The minutes from the August meeting were read and approved.

Members decided to plant 50 bulbs of yellow flowers at Oak Ridge School, with their permission, in recognition of the club's 50th anniversary.

Verla Mangels and Roberta Allen are to contact the Tiger Sanctuary regarding the club members' meat donations.

Christmas cards for the military should be brought to the October meeting.

JoAnn Hahs gave a report on the council meeting she and Jackie Kurre attended. The national meeting will be held in Memphis, Tennessee.

The 2015 MAFCE Conference will be held Wednesday through Friday at Grand Glaize, Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri.

The fall district meeting will be held Oct. 13 in Brazeau, Missouri. Any member wishing to attend should get in touch with Hahs no later than Friday. There is a $15 attendance fee.

Jackie Kurre gave the program on "Labeling, Organic Food." This program explained what the numbers mean on the little stickers on produce and does organic really make a difference.

Members will make and donate desserts to the Mississippi Valley Therapeutic Horsemanship organization and a donation will be made to the Oak Ridge School Library for "Goodies for Grands."

Officers were elected for 2016: JoAnn Hahs, president; Judy Strickland, vice president; Dorothy Hahs, secretary; Linda Sebaugh, treasurer; Roberta Allen, song leader; Beverly Meyer, game leader; and Margaret Friese, reporter.

After the election, members began making yarn angels for residents of the Jackson Manor Nursing Home.

The meeting was adjourned and refreshments were served. Time and place for the October meeting will be announced at a later date.
