Accused bank robber indicted by federal grand jury

The case against a man accused of robbing a Cape Girardeau bank has moved into the federal system.

Jeron Mister, 35, of Fairview Heights, Illinois, has been indicted by a grand jury on a federal charge of bank robbery by force or violence for his alleged role in a robbery earlier this month at The Bank of Missouri in Cape Girardeau.

Mister allegedly entered the bank at 3427 William St. the afternoon of Sept. 2, approached the teller area and presented a note that said "Give me money" to a bank employee, according to a probable-cause statement filed in the case.

The employee told police the suspect told her to hurry up or he would kill her, the statement said. She said she gave him the money, which he put in his pockets, and he ran from the bank. He was apprehended minutes later.

After being read his Miranda rights later that day, Mister admitted to robbing the bank.

No one was injured during the robbery.

Mister initially was charged in Cape Girardeau County with second-degree robbery.

An evidentiary hearing is scheduled for Nov. 10 before Magistrate Judge Abbie Crites-Leoni in Cape Girardeau.
