Two Jackson teen boys were hospitalized after being struck by a vehicle Saturday night.

Jackson police responded to a traffic-accident call at East Jackson Boulevard and Brittany Drive, where officers found two injured boys, according to news release from the city of Jackson.

Witnesses and driver statements indicated the boys, age 16 and 14, were trying to cross the highway to get to a convenience store on the other side of the road when they were struck by a vehicle traveling west on East Jackson Boulevard on the inside lane, the release stated.

The older boy suffered severe trauma and was transported first to Saint Francis Medical Center, then to Cardinal Glennon Hospital in St. Louis, the release stated.

The younger boy remains at Saint Francis Medical Center with injuries that were described as not life-threatening.

Jackson police were not available for comment Sunday afternoon to provide more information, but the release stated the incident remains under investigation.
