SOMERVILLE, Tenn. -- William Leo "Bill" Hagan Jr., 78, of Somerville passed away Monday, Nov. 2, 2015, surrounded by his family.

Bill was born April 23, 1937, in New Haven, Kentucky, to William Leo Hagan and Mary Margaret Shean Hagan. He was married Oct. 21, 1961, to Mary Ann Landewee.

"Big Bill," as he was affectionately referred to by his family and friends, was blessed to have lived life to the fullest until his stroke Oct. 18, 2015. He will always be remembered for his love of family and friends, his strong Christian faith, his kind, caring spirit and his never-ending positive attitude.

Throughout the years, Bill made a positive impact on the lives of many through his 23 years as the owner of the Big B Family Restaurant, his many years serving as the chief of the volunteer fire department and his numerous roles as an active civic leader in his beloved hometown of Chaffee, Missouri, where he lived the majority of his life.

Bill graduated from Chaffee High School in 1955, whereupon he enlisted in the United States Navy. Following his honorable discharge, he returned to Southeast Missouri to become a barber and was working at College Barber Shop in Cape Girardeau when he met and married Mary Ann, his wife of 54 years. They then moved back to Chaffee so that Bill could take over Hagan's Barber Shop. In 1977, Bill and Mary Ann built Big B Family Restaurant, which they operated for 23 years. Upon closing the Big B, Bill worked with Riceland foods before moving to Somerville. Bill was a longtime member of St. Ambrose Catholic Parish in Chaffee.

In 2008, Bill and Mary Ann moved to Somerville to be close to their children and grandchildren. Bill was a devoted parishioner of St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church in Somerville. He was also an active member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 14482 and the Memphis Bee Keepers Association.
