Ruby Jewel Hitt, 94, of Oak Ridge died Friday, Nov. 6, 2015.

She was born July 11, 1921, in McClure, Illinois, to William Channing and Nellie Pray Pattengill.

Ruby was married to John Van Hitt on Oct. 11, 1941, in Benton, Missouri. He died Jan. 9, 2008.

She graduated from Kelly High School in 1939.

Ruby was assistant postmaster for the Oak Ridge post office and later worked as a clerk at the Cape Girardeau post office for a total of 22 years.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Oak Ridge.

Ruby is survived by two sons, Van (Donna) Hitt and Paul Hitt, both of Oak Ridge; a daughter, Ellen (Joe) Duty of Cobden, Illinois; three sisters, Alice Hopper and Evelyn Zimmerman, both of Cape Girardeau, and Marie Nettles of Yuma, Arizona; one sister-in-law, Nola Pattengill of St. Louis; seven grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Hitt; seven brothers, Lee, Lawrence, Ralph, Marion, Paul, Rex, and Howard Pattengill; and two sisters, Gladys McCullum and Pauline Brock.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Ford and Sons Funeral Home-Jackson and from 10 a.m. until time of service Tuesday at First Baptist Church in Oak Ridge.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church, with the Rev. Marvin Graham officiating. Burial will be in Gravel Hill Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church in Oak Ridge.
