Report: Deputies interrupt man's assault on ex-wife

Moyers of Cape Girardeau was holding a knife and had threatened to kill

his ex-wife, an officer reported.

Deputies arrived in the 100 block of A Street at 2:50 p.m., according to a probable-cause report from deputy Ben Juergens.

After they knocked on the front door, the woman shouted, "He's got a knife," the report stated.

Juergens and his fellow deputy entered the house, and Moyers had dropped the knife at his feet, Juergens wrote.

Moyers and the woman had been arguing for some time when she said she decided to ignore Moyers, which sent him into a rage, Juergens wrote.

She said she was punched several times in the face, and she was choked.

Juergens wrote the woman was bleeding from several places around her face when officers arrived.

The woman said she tried to retreat into the bedroom when Moyers grabbed a butcher knife and shouted, "You're dead."

"While speaking with (the victim), I observed she was having difficulty focusing on our conversation due to her eyes swelling shut and complaining of a severe headache," Juergens wrote.

Moyers was arrested Sunday and is charged with first-degree domestic assault and felony unlawful use of a weapon.
