SIKESTON, Mo. -- A Sikeston man wanted on federal warrants is in jail after trying to evade officers, police said. At 11:40 a.m. Thursday, Sikeston Department of Public Safety officers received a call Cordell Lee Hiler, 44, was walking in the 200 block of Alabama Street in Sikeston, according to Sikeston DPS Capt. Jim McMillen. The U.S. Marshal Service had notified Sikeston that Hiler was wanted on felony warrants. When officers arrived, Hiler was sitting on the porch of a house in the 200 block of Alabama Street, McMillen said. Hiler ran into the house and closed the door when he saw the police. When Hiler ran out the back door of the house, he was taken into custody, McMillen said. Hiler was wanted on federal warrants for charges of a probation violation and selling cocaine. Hiler also had Scott County warrants for probation violation and tampering with a motor vehicle.

Woman accused of stealing car

A Sikeston, Missouri, woman is accused a stealing a car from an Oran, Missouri, convenience store Saturday. Dawn C. Faltz, 38, of Sikeston was charged with a felony count of tampering with a motor vehicle, Scott County Sheriff Rick Walter reported in a news release. Deputies were told a vehicle had been stolen from the Oran Mini Mart, and the vehicle had been found in Stoddard County. Deputies were told Faltz had been operating the stolen vehicle. Faltz admitted to deputies she took the vehicle from the Oran Mini Mart, the release stated. Faltz remains in custody at the Scott County Jail. Bond was set at $10,000.
