The price of a traditional turkey dinner may gobble up more of the family food budget this Thanksgiving, but it's still a bargain; with turkey specials in Cape Girardeau supermarkets ranging from a low of 19 cents a pound to a high of 89 cents, families may prepare a traditional turkey day dinner for as little as $2.50 a person.

The Golden Eagles Marching Band of Southeast Missouri State University will be celebrating Thanksgiving in Texas; the band and its auxiliary groups -- the Sundancers, color guard and baton twirlers -- will march in Foley's Thanksgiving Day parade in Houston.

A huge city grader wheel weighing about 700 pounds breaks off the grader axle, rolls about 150 feet, jumps the sidewalk, crashes into a display window and bounces back into the side of a parked car during the noon hour at Shoppers' Warehouse Market Inc., 724 Broadway; no one is injured.

POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. -- Army Spec. 4 Dale F. Hudson, 27, of Poplar Bluff was killed in action Wednesday in Vietnam. His brother, Bob Hudson of Poplar Bluff, said the soldier was killed after his unit of the 1st Cavalry Airmobile Division had completed an assault mission. Hudson, a former hospital orderly, was due to get out of the Army next month.

1940

Judge L.L. Bowman, appearing before the Cape Girardeau City Council, asks members of the council not to trade any part of the Courthouse Park to the federal government as a site for the new post office building. Bowman declares such action would threaten the existence of Common Pleas Court and asserts a majority of Girardeans are opposed to such a deal.

Plans are being made for a grand-scale send-off for the first five Cape Girardeau County military draftees Nov. 28 at Jackson, the night before they are to report for induction into service at Jefferson Barracks. Paul Mueller and Lyman Steel are making the arrangements.

1915

One of two glib-talking fakirs is lodged in the Allenville calaboose after attempting to sell "medicine" said to cure baldness, nursemaid's knee and all sorts of maladies. The two might have gotten away with their deception, except the "medicine" began to explode in various parts of town simultaneously yesterday, having been sold to numerous residents. Only one of the culprits was captured by the town's officers.

The first snow of the season, albeit a light one, falls on Cape Girardeau in the morning; the flakes can bee seen in the air, but the temperature is too warm for them to last.
