A bar refrigerator shorted out and started a small electrical fire at noon Friday at The Last Call Bar at Sprigg Street and Broadway when no one was inside.

Cape Girardeau firefighters responded to the fire at noon, forced open the locked front door and contained the fire to the origin point at the refrigerator, battalion chief Brad Dillow said.

Dillow said fire damage was limited to the refrigerator and a few boards underneath.

But he said the fire created a substantial amount of smoke that led to minor to moderate smoke damage to the bar.

Dillow said the owner of The Last Call said the bar would be closed Friday at least, and it would need to be cleared by a Cape Girardeau County health inspector before it reopens.
