Roy Wesley Wendel, 82, of Whitewater passed away Thursday, Nov. 26, 2015, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

He was born June 1, 1933, in Whitewater, son of Joseph W. and Edna D. Cook Wendel. He and Mary Lou Kasten were married Sept. 11, 1960, at Zion Methodist Church in Gordonville. She passed away Nov. 27, 2010.

Roy was a 1951 graduate of Jackson High School. He was inducted into the United States Army on Jan. 5, 1954, and was honorably discharged Dec. 30, 1955. Roy worked in the parts department for the former Brennecke Chevrolet in Jackson, the former Schneider Equipment in Cape Girardeau, the former H & S Equipment in Jackson and worked in the maintenance department for the Jackson School District, retiring in 1996. Roy was a lifelong member of Zion United Methodist Church and a former church board member. He was a charter member of the Millersville Fire Department and a member of the Altenthal-Joerns American Legion Post 158 in Jackson. He enjoyed working on small engines from his home.

Loving survivors include a son, Larry (Pam) Wendel of Elizabeth, Colorado; a daughter, Janet (Dirk) Roberts of Arnold, Missouri; four grandchildren, Chris (Shellie) Wendel, Kelsey Wendel and Samantha and Justin Roberts; four great-grandchildren, Wyatt, Emma, Lonnie and Evelyn Wendel; and a brother, Robert (Sharon) Wendel of Whitewater.

He was preceded in death by his wife.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the chapel of McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson and from 9:30 a.m. until time of service Monday at Zion Methodist Church in Gordonville.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the church, with the Rev. Joel Kidwell officiating. Interment will be in Zion Methodist Cemetery in Gordonville with military honors.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to Zion Methodist Church Memorial Fund.
