Heavy rains in recent days have caused the Mississippi River to rise and is forecast to reach minor flood stage Tuesday.

Hydrograph reports Saturday from the National Weather Service indicate the river will crest at 33 feet Wednesday morning. Flood stage in Cape Girardeau is 32 feet.

Reports indicate the Mississippi River will reach flood stage sometime Tuesday evening.

The city of Cape Girardeau usually doesn't close the Themis Street flood gate until the river rises past 34 feet.
