PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- Jane Eleanor Smith, 83, of Perryville died Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2015, at her home.

Jane was born May 14, 1932, at Cape Girardeau to William C. Ellzey and Juanita Chastner Ellzey. She was previously married to Thomas S. Abnerathy on Aug. 17, 1951, at Cape Girardeau. She married Gordon R. Smith on May 14, 1994, at Jackson. He survives.

Jane was vice president of Deaconess Hospital. She held a master's degree in hospital administration. She was a member of Pilgrim Congregational Church in St. Louis.

She is survived by her husband, Gordon R. Smith of Perryville; two sons, Tom Abernathy of Perryville and Christopher Abernathy of North Providence, Rhode Island; daughter Sarah Pinkner of St. Louis; brother William Clark Ellzey of Crestone, Colorado; sister-in-law Carolyn Goodin of Cape Girardeau; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three stepchildren; five stepgrandchildren; and six great-stepgrandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her sister, Sandra Carlson.

A service will be announced at a later date.
