Downtown Cape is gearing up for another active weekend.

Old Town Cape's Downtown Christmas Open House is set for 5 to 9 p.m. Friday. The annual open house, in its 14th year, will bring back many favorite activities of years past.

"It's going to be more concentrated on Main Street this year," Christa Zickfield of Old Town Cape said.

Carriage rides in the Main Street area will be available from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. and will start at the corner of Broadway and Spanish Street.

Santa Claus again will be paying a visit, this time at the new Realty Executives office, 115 Broadway. Children will have the opportunity to get their picture taken with Santa for free and make a holiday craft to take home.

Stores will be decorated, and church choirs, community groups and schools will sing Christmas carols.

"We've got probably 10 or 11 groups of carolers that are going to be scheduled throughout the evening, walking around downtown," Zickfield said. "Some will be in businesses doing performances."

Also returning this year is the chance to win a shopping spree.

To be eligible to win the $1,500 prize, shoppers 18 and older first must visit a registration booth to sign up and receive a ticket packet starting at 5 p.m.

The booths will be at Hutson's Fine Furniture, 43 S. Main St., and Santa's Workshop.

To be entered in the drawing, shoppers must submit at least one ticket into a gift-wrapped box at any participating business. One ticket may be dropped off for one chance to win, or all tickets for more chances. Shoppers are limited to one entry packet per person.

The winner will be announced Dec. 11 via social media, Zickfield said.

"It's just a really fun evening to see everybody convening downtown, and everybody's kind of got the spirit of Christmas, and it's all festive," Zickfield said. "It's just really good to see everybody come together and have a great time while shopping and eating and being with their friends and family."
