Raymond Newell

Raymond Newell, 79, of Jackson, formerly of Anna, Illinois, died Monday, Dec. 7, 2015, at Monticello House in Jackson.

He was born August 24, 1936, in Elco, Illinois, the son of Glenn and Mildred (Sheffer) Newell.

He married Joan King on May 25, 1976, and she preceded him in death Feb. 1, 2001.

Raymond was the owner and operator of Raymond Newell Trucking Company for nearly 50 years. In his retirement, he was a driver for Cape Transit Authority and had worked at Wal-Mart in Cape Girardeau.

He is survived by his children, Gary Newell of Phoenix; Sharon (Dennis) Abercrombie of Jonesboro, Illinois; two grandchildren, Joshua (Michelle) Abercrombie and Hope (Jed) Mix; four great-grandchildren, Blake, Paige, Bailey and Clara Mix; and brothers James (Carolyn) Newell of Tamms, Illinois, David (Anna) Newell of Kelso, Missouri, and Michael (Diann) Newell of Cape Girardeau.

Raymond is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Dorothy (Melvin) Smith.

Visitation for Raymond Newell will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Crain Funeral Home in Anna.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with Pastor Don Estes officiating. Interment to follow in Anna City Cemetery.
