CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. -- Stefan Moody and the Mississippi men's basketball team didn't get off to the best offensive start Saturday on the road against Southeast Missouri State.

The Southeastern Conference's leading scorer had just 11 points as the Rebels clung to a three-point lead midway through the second half.

He poured in the next 15 points for Ole Miss over a stretch of 3 minutes, 4 seconds to push the lead to double figures and the Rebels held on for a 75-64 win on Saturday.

Moody finished with 28 points on 8-of-21 shooting as Ole Miss improved to 7-2. The Redhawks dropped to 0-9.

"Some of those shots all you can do is contest," Southeast guard Antonius Cleveland said. "I know a couple shots he hit was just Moody shots, I guess. I think we did a pretty good job on him if you take away those last four or five minutes where he just got a little streak going."

The Redhawks pulled within 50-48 with 7:21 remaining on Isiah Jones' third 3 of the half before Moody went to work.

He knocked down four free throws and a layup before hitting three 3s in a row to push the Ole Miss lead to 63-52 with 3:51 to play.

"Moody's an elite scorer," Southeast coach Rick Ray said. "... I think he hit three 3s in a row. I thought two of them were contested. One of them was a difficult shot, but that's the type of scorer he is."

The Rebels led by as many as 12 down the stretch. Southeast (0-9) cut it to six with 1:56 left, but got no closer.

Ole Miss led by as many as 13 in the opening 20 minutes and took a 35-25 advantage into the break.

The winless Redhawks and Ray, who'd spent the last three seasons in the SEC as the coach of Mississippi State, made sure the first SEC team to ever visit the Show Me Center didn't escape with an easy victory.

The Redhawks scored the first six points of the game and held a 10-5 lead 4:24 into the contest before Ole Miss used a 14-7 run to take its first lead at 19-17 with just over eight minutes to go before halftime. The Redhawks were held to just eight points the remainder of the half.

Freshman guard Eric McGill opened the second half with a 3-pointer, and Jones followed with back to back treys to pull the Redhawks within four points 1:31 into the second half.

They pulled within two twice -- at 44-42 and at 50-48 -- before Moody extended the gap.

Cleveland scored a career-high 25 points for Southeast. Jones finished with 15 points, and Trey Kellum added 10.

The Redhawks shot 41.2 percent from the field and were 5 of 15 from beyond the arc.

"When you've got a crowd like that, you can't do nothing but make shots," Cleveland said of the announced crowd of 2,325. "That basically sums it up. It's a big game, nice crowd; we just wanted to give them a reason to get out their seats, so we had fun and played loose."

The Rebels dominated on the glass, outrebounding Southeast 53-36. They had 19 offensive boards and only scored 17 second-chance points.

"I think that's the best thing that Ole Miss does, and I think that's one of the best things that they've always done because they've always had an elite scorer like a Moody or a Marshall Henderson that you have to pay so much attention to," Ray said. "Then all of a sudden you're helping, helping, helping, and all of a sudden they're on the glass."

The Redhawks travel to Highland Heights, Kentucky, to face Northern Kentucky at 6 p.m. Saturday.
