A Cape Girardeau man was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of domestic assault against a woman who reportedly stabbed him two months earlier.

Anthony Jerome Mackins, 30, was charged with one count of second-degree domestic assault, and his bond was set at $10,000 cash only.

At 7:44 a.m. Tuesday, Cape Girardeau police went to the 2800 block of Whitener Street, and the victim said Mackins placed her in a choke hold to get the vehicle's keys she had tucked inside her bra, officer Jonathan Ortmann wrote in a probable-cause report.

Ortmann reported he observed injuries to the victim's neck, chest and both arms and Mackins admitted to inflicting those injuries, saying they were wrestling for the keys. Mackins said he and the victim were romantically involved before "they had kind of separated," Ortmann wrote.

An arrest warrant was issued for Tricia D. Mahurin, 26, Cape Girardeau on Oct. 31. She was charged with one count of second-degree domestic assault. Mahurin admitted to police to stabbing Mackins in the right side of his torso at the same apartment Oct. 30. She said Mackins had grabbed her and pushed her several times when she said she accidentally stabbed him with the knife she was holding in an attempt to scare him, officer Robert Newton wrote in a probable-cause statement. Newton reported Mahurin had red marks on her neck consistent with those made by a hand and bruising on her chest and on her left shoulder.

She also said Mackins had hit her before, Newton wrote.

Mackins pleaded guilty to misdemeanor domestic assault June 12, 2009.

Mahurin has a counsel status hearing scheduled for Monday on the domestic-assault charge. Assistant public defender Jennifer Sloan withdrew from the case Nov. 23, explaining Mahurin did not need a public defender because she posted a surety bond for $10,000 on Nov. 3.
