Damon Bartels scored 17 points as the Delta boys basketball team snapped a 53-game losing streak and picked up their first win in three seasons with a 42-35 victory over Eagle Ridge Christian School on the road on Tuesday.

The Bobcats (1-9) held a one-point lead at halftime and then went on to outscore the Eagles by six points in the second half to get the victory. It was the first victory for the Delta boys basketball team since January 29, 2013 when the Bobcats edged Woodland 49-47.

Hunter Jones sank a game-high 21 points to pace Eagle Ridge (3-8).

Cole Nichols drained a game-high 20 points to lead the Cubs in the win at home over the Bulldogs.

Delta New Year's Tournament

St. Vincent sophomore Jackie Verseman netted a game-high 12 points to help the fifth-seeded Indians to a 40-21 victory keep the eighth-seeded Panthers winless in a consolation semifinal of the Delta New Year's Invitational Tournament.

Hannah Gotto and Jenna Winkler added five points apiece for St. Vincent (7-4), which posted a 15-point lead at halftime on its way to the win.

Sammatha Miles had six points to pace Meadow Heights (0-11).

St. Vincent will face sixth-seeded Puxico for the consolation title on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. Puxico disposed of seventh-seeded host Delta 48-37 in Tuesday's other consolation semifinal. Sophia Hancock scored 24 points to account to lead Puxico (5-4), while Katelyn Pierre tossed in 11 for the Indians.

Freshman Macey Smith notched 10 points for the Bobcats (3-8).

The Mules captured first place in eight events to win a tri-meet with the Bulldogs and Knightettes at the Black River Coliseum in Poplar Bluff, Missouri.

Poplar Bluff sophomore Taylor Norwood won the 100 butterfly (1:00.78) and 100 breaststroke (1:12.27) to lead the Mules.

Notre Dame senior Madison Heisserer posted a first-place time of 59.52 seconds in the 100 freestyle and won the 100 backstroke with a time of 1 minute, 7.15 seconds.
