Area trash collection will be altered next week in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

The city of Jackson's Sanitation Department will not operate Monday. Trash normally collected on that day will instead be collected Tuesday, along with regular Tuesday trash pickup. The recycling center in Jackson also will be closed Monday.

In Cape Girardeau, Monday's trash will be collected Tuesday, and Tuesday's normal trash pickup will occur Wednesday. All other trash routes during the week will remain on their normal schedule, city officials said.

In Perryville, Missouri, the holiday will affect only commercial trash collection. Residential trash is collected in Perryville on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Monday's trash will be picked up Tuesday.
