Richard Kent Withers, 74, of Cape Girardeau died Friday, Jan. 8, 2016, at Saint Francis Medical Center. He was born Feb. 11, 1941, in Cape Girardeau to Waldo Russell Withers Sr. and Ruth Harrelson Withers. Richard Kent Withers, 74, of Cape Girardeau died Friday, Jan. 8, 2016, at Saint Francis Medical Center.

He was born Feb. 11, 1941, in Cape Girardeau to Waldo Russell Withers Sr. and Ruth Harrelson Withers.

He was a radio personality with WGGH in Marion, Illinois; WABB in Mobile, Alabama; WSGN in Birmingham, Alabama; and WMAK and WLAC in Nashville, Tennessee. He was the recipient of the Music Industries Association's Reel Top 40 Radio Music Awards as the program director of WLAC.

He was a member and Second Reader at the First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Cape Girardeau and the Belleview Masonic Lodge in Nashville. He held a bachelor of science degree from Southeast Missouri State University.

Survivors include three sons, David Lee Corbit of Conroe, Texas, Devin Lee Corbit of Richmond, Texas, and Richard Kendall Withers of Yuma, Arizona; a brother, William Joseph Withers Sr. of Theodore, Alabama; a sister, Lindi Janes of Cape Girardeau; three grandchildren; a niece; four nephews; and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Waldo Russell Withers Sr.; his mother, Ruth Harrelson Withers; two brothers, W. Russell Withers Jr. and James Keith Withers; a grandson, Alex Ray Corbit, and a daughter-in-law, Nicole Deann Corbit.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to noon Feb. 13 at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home. A masonic service will be at noon, followed by a memorial service, with the Rev. SusanAnn Wilkerson officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given in his name to Shriners Children's Hospital, 2900 N. Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607, and to Southeast Missouri State University Scholarship Fund, 1 University Plaza, MS 7300, Cape Girardeau MO 63701.
