Fewer cells

I think I know the reason Cape Girardeau's city council apparently came in under budget on a new police station. Our local leaders are visionaries and realize the station will not cost nearly as much as the skeptics are saying and that budgeting $11 million is more than enough for construction of the facility. Their view is based on a belief I strongly share. It is that Cape Girardeau is on the verge of becoming a utopia of peace and prosperity with the crime rate dropping to almost zero so that the new police station will need but three or fewer cells.

Desert Storm

Where's your patriotism, Southeast Missourian? We just celebrated the 25th anniversary of Desert Storm. However, not one word was mentioned about it or of any of the area vets who had served in that war. I'm a World War II vet and think it's just a shame you forgetting these younger folks who served as well.

Jackson display

I want to make a comment about the Jackson park Christmas display. I thought it was very pretty this year.

No fair trial

I certainly disdain Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman but there's no way he could get a fair trial if extradited to the United States, primarily because of all the vile anti-Mexican verbiage coming from the mouth of the deplorable Donald J. Trump.

New motto

The government needs to get rid of "In God We Trust." I suggest replacing it with "By Reason We Live."

Congrats to KRCU

A lot of people have worked very hard to make radio station KRCU an overwhelming success. It's an unqualified pleasure to listen to a station offering objective news, stories on art and culture, a wide variety of music and so forth. I would like to pay particular tribute to a young man who has worked overtime to make KRCU a veritable utopia of listening pleasure. Congratulations to KRCU's development director, Mr. Alex Jackson!

Repair needed

The women's handicapped shower at the municipal pool has not worked right since last summer. There is just a trickle of water, and it is cold, also. Please, can't something be done? This has been reported several times.

Christian president

If there is a bad thing about President Obama it is that he is a Christian and not an atheist. I was hoping that he was a closet atheist, but sadly that is not the case.

Cat condos

I was out at the Humane Society the other day. They got some new condos for cats. I think it looks really nice.

Kudos to Baughn

For the Southeast Missourian's fantastic new online look, I hereby bestow upon James Baughn a highly coveted but rarely awarded Speak Out prize for creative web design.
