Jo Ann Herod, 84, of Cape Girardeau passed away Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2016, at Chateau Girardeau Health Center.

She was born Aug. 17, 1931, in Delta to Earl and Verda Chaney Smith. She and James Herod were married Oct. 6, 1949, at Delta. He preceded her in death Dec. 1, 2006.

Jo Ann was a lifetime member of First Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was an amazing mother and friend. She was very family-oriented and very much a lady. Her cheerful and positive outlook on life will greatly be missed.

Survivors include two sons, Mitch (Patty) Herod of Cape Girardeau and Doug (Cindy) Herod of O'Fallon, Missouri; a daughter, Emily (Mike) Hagan of Cape Girardeau; two brothers, Sam (Ermalee) Smith and Mike (Bonnie) Smith, both of Cape Girardeau; three sisters, Mary Ellen (Frank) Bean of Florida, Yvonne (Robbie) Robison of Nashville, Tennessee, and Elaine (John) Reid of Evansville, Indiana; two grandchildren, Candless Campbell and Trevor Herod; and two great-grandchildren, Asher and McKinley Campbell.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a sister and a grandchild.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.

The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with pastor Mike Shupert officiating. Burial will be at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Alzheimer's Association or First Baptist Church.
