MARION, Ill. -- Harvey L. Hammers, 90, of Marion, formerly of Cairo, Illinois, passed away Thursday morning, Jan. 28, 2016, at his assisted-living apartment in Marion.

Harvey was born Aug. 21, 1925, in Logan, Illinois, son of the late Wesley Hammers and Carrie Sweetin Hammers.

Harvey was a Navy veteran; member of Tigert Memorial Methodist Church in Cairo; and owned and operated the former Hammer Hardware and Building Store in Cairo for several years.

Survivors include three sons, David (Janice) Hammers of Granite City, Illinois, Pearlie Glen Hammers of Florida and Howard (Barb) Hammers of Jackson; two daughters, Lisa (Keith) Kerr of Villa Ridge, Illinois, and Lois Ann (Paul) Ehlert of Franklin, Tennessee; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Harvey was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary E. Millikan Hammers on Dec. 24, 1982; and a grandson, Chad Ehlert.

Friends may call between 10 a.m. and noon Saturday at Jones Funeral Home Villa Ridge.

The funeral services will be at noon at the funeral home. Interment will be in Green Lawn Memorial Gardens in Villa Ridge, with full military honors given by the United States Navy Burial Team and area veterans.
