Street Style: 'Resolve or Dissolve' in 2016

This year is sure to be hopeful and full of promise, just like every new year should be. My theme this year is "Resolve or Dissolve." What in your life deserves or demands a resolution? Or, what in your life needs to be let go of permanently? This can apply to any aspect of your life, including your wardrobe. Fix what you want to fix and enjoy it. Lose what no longer serves you or brings you interest.

So, that beautiful dress you have that everyone says looks great on you, but the pesky zipper keeps breaking? Find a good tailor or alterations shop and make it better than ever. What about those neon loafers that you swore would be perfect for the summer, but they've sat in the back of your closet for the past two years? You never bought anything to go with them, anyway, so toss them! Trust me, someone else will find great joy in them, and you can find something more suited for you to take its place. The Salvation Army, Goodwill or the Safe House for Women Thrift Shop will be happy to take those discarded items right off your hands.

I spoke with local fashion expert and stylist Rachel Ross McNeely about what she will "Resolve or Dissolve" out of her wardrobe. Here's what she had to say:

"For the new year, I intend to focus on purchasing only staple/basic pieces or statement pieces, and no in-betweens. Over-the-top or under-the-radar only. I'll look for basics like skinnies and boyfriend jeans, basic tees and fedoras that can be pieced together to form multiple outfits, sprinkled with a few high-profile, bold, over-the-top pieces that steal all the focus. Think about the same basic white tee and boyfriend jeans you wore last week with a chunky sweater for a coffee date, worn with your wild, loud, showstopping ombre sequin blazer to dinner with the girls! No more wasting money on the disposable 'noticeable, but not notable' trendy pieces that get lost in the crowd."
