CHARLESTON, Mo. — An East Prairie, Missouri, woman faces theft, forgery and drug charges after an embezzlement investigation in Mississippi County.

Candi Michelle Cook, 44, is charged with felony counts of theft/stealing of property valued in excess of $25,000, forgery, possession of a controlled substance and tampering with physical evidence.

According to Mississippi County Sheriff Keith Moore, the investigation began last week when a local business owner contacted a deputy to report theft by an employee. After the investigation, the deputy arrested Cook on Tuesday and learned she had tried to hide illegal narcotics when she saw him coming, according to the sheriff.
