The Southeast Missouri baseball team made a bit of history on Friday, defeating UT Martin 15-6 to move to 8-0 in the Ohio Valley Conference for the first time ever.

Brandon Boggetto hit an individual milestone as well, becoming the third Redhawk to pick up six hits in a game. He is the first to hit that mark since Jordan Payne on May 14, 2005. Boggetto finished 6-for-6 with four runs batted in, three runs scored and two doubles.

Nine different players picked up a hit for SEMO, which had 18 total hits in the game.

That offensive output was more than enough for starting pitcher Clay Chandler (3-0), who allowed three runs on five hits, striking out six and walking one for the Redhawks (16-8).

Alex Evans (0-4) took the loss for the Skyhawks (7-16, 2-6).

UT Martin actually took a lead in the bottom of the first thanks to a sacrifice fly from Matt Hirsch. It was the first lead of the series for the Skyhawks.

That advantage didn't last long, as Dan Holst's two-RBI double in the top of the third gave Southeast a 2-1 advantage. Holst later scored to make it 3-1 in favor of the Redhawks. UT Martin never led again.

Southeast added two runs in the top of the fifth frame to make the score 5-1.

It as the fifth inning, though, that essentially ended things, as the Redhawks packed eight runs into the frame to take a 13-1 advantage.

Ryan Rippe got a leadoff single and later scored, Trevor Ezell and Gandolfo added runs for Southeast, Boggetto added a pair of RBIs to his resume.

Rippee later came tot he plate for a second time in the inning, stroking a three-run home run to left field.

UT Martin got something to cheer for when Collin Edwards got a hole of a Chandler pitch and deposited it over the fence for a two-run home run. The score was 13-3.

Scott Mitchell added to SEMO's lead in the eight with an RBI hit, but the Skyhawks got a pinch-hit three-run home run from Sadler Goodwin.

Chris Osborne was 3-for-4 with a pair of runs scored for the Redhawks. Ezell and Rippee each had two hits.

Matthew Wade and Jared Wolhoff came on in relief for Southeast Missouri State.

The Redhawks will close out the three-game set today at 3 p.m. in Martin, Tennessee.

Boggetto now has 52 career doubles, good for eighth all-time in program history.
