Joyce Sander

COMMERCE, Mo. -- Joyce Mae Sander, 86, of Commerce died Wednesday, April 27, 2016, at Chaffee Nursing Center in Chaffee, Missouri.

She was born March 6, 1930, in Chaffee to Elmer A. and Mima Lee Harmon Poorman. She married Ralph Garland Sander on Oct. 18, 1951, in Benton, Missouri. He preceded her in death Dec. 21, 1997.

Joyce retired from teaching at Cape Girardeau Central High School, later becoming postmaster at the Commerce post office. She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Commerce, where she played the piano for many years.

Survivors include nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

She also was preceded in death by two brothers, Delbert and Arthur Poorman, and a sister, Mary Ann Young.

There will be a celebration of life visitation from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Amick-Burnett Chapel in Scott City.

With her caring heart, her wishes were honored by donating her body to the Washington University School of Medicine.
