Mary June Engel, 84, of Jackson passed away Wednesday, April 27, 2016.

She was born June 17, 1931, in St. Louis, daughter of Luther M. and Pauline Lee Davis. She and Gerald Platt were married in 1947. He passed away in 1984.

June was a hairdresser for over 30 years. She owned and operated June's Beauty Salon and Jackson Beauty School in Jackson. After moving to Jefferson City, Missouri, she opened a large beauty salon and also worked as an inspector for the State Board of Cosmetology. Although the beauty industry was her livelihood, her true passion was trail riding with her friends, the "Saddle Bags," over many trails, hundreds of miles, good years, and many memories.

When June returned to Jackson, she attended New McKendree United Methodist Church, where she was active in the church and helped provide meals for various members and church groups.

She was an accomplished watercolor artist; specifically, floral watercolors. Many of these paintings she lovingly left to her family as a remembrance of "Grammy."
