John David "J.D." Clippard, 13, of Cape Girardeau died Monday, May 2, 2016.

He was born July 8, 2002, in Cape Girardeau and is the son of Mark and Kari Simon and John Clippard.

J.D. was in the eighth grade at Cape Girardeau Central Junior High School. He was into longboarding and photography. He also liked camping and riding horses. He was a finalist in the national championships of taekwondo. J.D. was an adventurous, funny, quirky, beautiful boy with eyes and a smile that lit up every room he walked into. His laugh and generous heart will be missed by all who knew him. He was a son, a grandson, a brother, a nephew and a friend to so many. The light he brought into the lives of so many will never be forgotten.

Survivors include his mother, Kari (Mark) Simon of Cape Girardeau; his father, John Clippard of Cape Girardeau; brother Conner Simon of Cape Girardeau; sisters Maddison Aslinger and Abigail and Logan Clippard, all of Cape Girardeau; maternal grandmother Jean Aslinger of Cape Girardeau; paternal grandparents Frank and Cathy Clippard of Cape Girardeau; aunts Shelley (Cory) Kirchhoff and children, Kaila and Cameron Kirchhoff, Kim (Bryan) Kelpe and children, Kenyan and Nola Kelpe, Shelley (Tom) Gaffigan and children, Ryan, Allison and Kendra Cagle, and Lori Clippard (Fara McDonald).

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Howard Aslinger.

Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. with a celebration of life to follow today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the J.D. Clippard Benefit at First State Community Bank or the Howard Aslinger Memorial Scholarship Foundation.
