Watson said he was with the victim and two other teenagers on the breezeway of Lorimont House apartments off North Lorimier Street when someone arrived and fired several shots.

Watson said there were six or seven shots fired, with his friend being struck by the fourth shot.

Another neighbor reported hearing as many as 10 shots, while a different neighbor said it was 15.

A neighbor said a dark-colored vehicle pulled up alongside the apartment building before the shots were fired.

Police were investigating the shooting after the victim was transported, trying to find shell casings on Lorimier Street in front of the apartment building.

Watson said he was not sure whether he and his friends were the intended targets of the shootings.

He said they do not know that many people in town.

“This was the stuff I was trying to get away from,” Watson said, referring to violence in the St. Louis area.

Cape Girardeau public-information officer Adam Glueck said the shooter was still at large, and as of Thursday evening, he could not say whether the incident was related to the discovery of a body near Ranney Park earlier in the day.
