The Burger King Capahas continued their hot start to manager Jess Bolen's final season.

The Capahas improved to 3-0 on the season with a pair of wins at Capaha Field this weekend. They posted a 4-0 shutout vs. the St. Louis Spikes on Friday and defeated Fairview Heights (Illinois) 5-3 on Saturday.

"We've played pretty good ball in these first three," said Bolen, who is in his 50th season at the helm. "I'm pretty proud of what we've done and we'll just see how good we can get."

A pair of Cape Central graduates combined for the shutout on the mound on Friday.

Lance Young earned the win. He started and pitched seven scoreless innings, allowing five hits and striking out five while not walking a batter.

Calvin Lovig closed out the game, giving up three hits and recording four strikeouts over the final two innings.

The Capahas scored the only runs they'd need in the fifth. Adam Connor and Cam Womack hit one-out singles and were driven in on a Chase Urhahn double off the left-field fence. Drew Morecraft blasted a solo home run over the scoreboard in left later in the frame to make it 3-0.

Chase Simmons hit an RBI double in the eighth for the final run.

Josh Haggerty went 2-for-3 and Qualls had a single, double and triple in the contest. The Capahas finished with 11 hits and did not commit an error.

They never trailed on Saturday, either.

Womack drove in the first run with a two-out RBI single in the third.

Morecraft led off the fourth with a double and scored on a base hit by Alex Heuring.

A two-out double by Cody Heisserer made it 3-0.

The Capahas scored on a bases loaded walk in the fifth and Haggerty homered in the seventh for their final run.

Brady Wright, a former Southeast reliever, pitched six scoreless frames in the start. He allowed four hits, did not walk a batter and struck out 10 en route to the victory.

Ebon Brooks allowed three earned runs on four hits with a walk and five strikeouts over the final three innings.

The Capahas play the Cahokia Red Sox on the road at 5:30 p.m. today.
