Another season and school year is in the books, and another round of postseason athletic honors have been announced, recognizing standout student-athletes from the area for their pursuits in baseball, softball and girls soccer.
A select few earned the highest of honors with distinctions at the all-state level.
On the baseball field, team success on the field often translated into individual accolades, as Bell City -- which won a second straight Class 1 state title -- and Scott City -- which returned to the Class 3 final four -- were heavily represented.
For the Cubs, juniors Austin Hicks (pitcher), Bobby Wright (catcher) and Cole Nichols (designated hitter/utility) were all first-team all-state selections in Class 1.
Senior third baseman Nate Finney was a second-team pick as an infielder, while senior Peyton Maddox was among the second-team DH/utility selections.
Also gracing the Class 1 list was Oran's Drew Reischman, as the sophomore garnered second-team honors as an infielder.
In Class 3, Scott City's Braden Cox (DH/utility), a junior, and Drew Short (infielders), a senior, made the first-team cut. Fellow Ram Jordan Kluesner, a senior, was among the second-team pitchers.
St. Vincent placed a pair of representatives on the Class 2 all-state list, with senior Noah Niswonger a second-team pick in the infield and senior Jordan Rellergert an honorable mention selection for DH/utility.
Chaffee sophomore Austin Copeland was also among those honored in the Class 2, pulling in an honorable mention nod as an outfielder.
Class 4 saw only one local selection, as Notre Dame's Ross Essner wrapped up his high school career on the honorable mention (DH/utility) list.
Jackson junior Jarrett Newell picked up honorable mention (infielders) all-state honors in Class 5.
In girls soccer, Class 1 state champion Saxony Lutheran filled the coffers of the classification's all-state roster, including senior captain Maddie Brune (18 goals, 17 assists) as the Class 1 Player of the Year.
Joining Brune is senior Grace Mirly (26 goals, 24 assists) as Co-Offensive Player of the Year, senior Logan Welker as Defensive Player of the Year and senior Raegan Wieser as Goalkeeper of the Year.
Crusaders coach Garrett Fritsche was the Class 1 Coach of the Year after steering his team to a second straight state title.
Along with that group of elite picks, Saxony also placed seniors Tess Daniel and Brianna Mueller on the first team.
They were joined by junior Faith Kapp from district rival St. Vincent.
The Class 1 second team featured Saxony Lutheran seniors Tayla and Logan Meyr as well as sophomore Laurel Mueller.
St. Vincent's Corin Carroll and Courtney Brewer, both sophomores, were second-team picks.
Kelly's Megan Walker, a junior, and Lynsey Powers, a freshman, made the third-team cut, as did a pair of St. Vincent sophomores in Kaiti Schnurbusch and Jenna Winkler.
In Class 2, Notre Dame freshman Megan Heisserer wrapped up her breakout first year with a first-team nod, while senior teammate Maddie Urhahn was selected to the second team. Senior Breanna Westrich made the third team.
Class 3 featured Cape Girardeau central junior Callie House as an honorable mention pick.
In Class 4, the Jackson duo of sophomore Lauren Welker and senior Cassidi Tomsu earned second team and honorable mention selections, respectively.
Spring softball all-region and all-state honors have not been released.
