Shooting leaves 1 dead, 1 hurt

WAYNESVILLE, Mo. -- Authorities are investigating after one man was killed and another injured in a shooting at a south-central Missouri home. The Springfield News-Leader reported the shooting occurred early Sunday in rural Pulaski County. Sheriff Ron Long said in a release no arrests had been made, but there are at least two suspects. He said he activated the Lake of the Ozarks Major Case Squad to assist in the investigation and is getting help from the Missouri State Highway Patrol. The identities of the victims have not been released. Long said the injured person is in fair condition and is expected to survive.

3-year-old injured in St. Louis shooting

ST. LOUIS -- A 3-year-old boy in St. Louis was hospitalized with a gunshot wound to the head. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported the shooting occurred near an intersection Saturday night. The child was in critical condition at a hospital. Police are investigating but did not provide any other details.

Some pies recalled due to peanut risk

KANSAS CITY, Kan. -- A company has recalled some of its pies because the flour may contain peanut residue. The Kansas City Star reported Kansas City, Kansas-based Tippin's Gourmet Pies has voluntarily recalled certain Key lime pies because of the possibility of peanut residue in the flour. The company initiated the recall after learning Kellogg Co., its supplier of graham-cracker crumbs used in pie crusts, recalled the crumbs. Tippin's said it hasn't received notices of allergic reactions involving its pies. The recall affects its 8-inch key lime pies with a UPC code of 680816050057 sold in Kansas, Missouri, Texas, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Arizona and Illinois. The pies carry lot number dates between April 7 and May 17.

Couple accused of abusing children

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- A Kansas City husband and wife face charges stemming from accusations they sexually assaulted and photographed children. Jackson County prosecutors charged Robert D. Bess, 62, with statutory rape and child molestation and charged Jamie Bess, 52, with accessory to statutory rape and sexual exploitation of a minor. The Kansas City Star reported court records show Robert Bess is accused of having sexual intercourse with a girl under the age of 14 and of molesting a boy under the age of 14. Jamie Bess is accused of creating child pornography by recording one of the incidents of abuse. Their preliminary hearing is July 5.

St. Louis to raise transgender flag

ST. LOUIS -- St. Louis City Hall will become one of the few in the nation to fly the transgender flag during a ceremony this week. Officials with PROMO and Metro Trans Umbrella Group announced the transgender flag will be raised this morning. St. Louis City Hall has been flying the rainbow pride flag for many years. A spokeswoman for PROMO said the transgender flag will fly during St. Louis Pride Festival week. Security is expected to be high in St. Louis this week in the wake of the shooting that left 49 people dead at Pulse nightclub in Orlando, Florida.
