St. Louis Fire Department Capt. Garon Mosby said the man became stuck in the mud Sunday, with his head above water near the McKinley Bridge.

Two firefighters swam to the man and freed him. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment for injuries that were not life-threatening. He was listed as stable.

Mosby told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch he did not know how long the man had been in the water or how he wound up there.
