JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- Billie Highfill Dempsey, 73, of Jefferson City died Sunday, Aug. 7, 2016, at his home. He was born April 6, 1943, in Hornersville, Missouri, to Highfill and Margaret Kinsall Dempsey. He first married Alice Schmid on Oct. 5, 1967. He later married Willie Mae Phillips on July 8, 1983. Willie preceded him in death Aug. 12, 2008...

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- Billie Highfill Dempsey, 73, of Jefferson City died Sunday, Aug. 7, 2016, at his home. He was born April 6, 1943, in Hornersville, Missouri, to Highfill and Margaret Kinsall Dempsey.

He first married Alice Schmid on Oct. 5, 1967. He later married Willie Mae Phillips on July 8, 1983. Willie preceded him in death Aug. 12, 2008.

He was an Engineer for Union Pacific Railroad and was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

He was a member of Eagles Club, Elks Club, United Transportation Union and Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers.

He is survived by a son, Billy (Kris) Dempsey of Highland, Illinois; stepson, Rick (Joe Ann) Moore of Dalhart, Texas; a stepdaughter, Bobby Jean Gray of Scott City; girlfriend, June Peters of Jefferson City, Missouri; three sisters, Gwen (Mike) Riggs of Kennett, Missouri, Barb (John) Hutchison of Caruthersville, Missouri, and Linda (Larry) Shown of Springfield, Missouri; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Amick-Burnett Chapel in Scott City.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the chapel, with the Rev. Billy Dempsey officiating.

Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.
