DEXTER, Mo. -- Ellen Rose Henderson Speight, 90, of Dexter died Sunday, Aug. 7, 2016, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau. She was born March 24, 1926, in Lilbourn, Missouri, to the late Jesse Clarence and Ada Blanche Shy Henderson. DEXTER, Mo. -- Ellen Rose Henderson Speight, 90, of Dexter died Sunday, Aug. 7, 2016, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

She was born March 24, 1926, in Lilbourn, Missouri, to the late Jesse Clarence and Ada Blanche Shy Henderson.

She was a member of Lilbourn Methodist Church and graduated from Lilbourn High School in 1943. She had worked as a bookkeeper for P.M. Barton Farms and New Madrid County Ambulance District before retiring.

On Sept. 8, 1942, in Malden, Missouri, she married Gene Speight; he preceded her in death Dec. 2, 1996.

She is survived by two sons, the Rev. Gene (Nora) Speight Jr. of Jackson and Larry (Rita) Speight of Dexter; a sister, Helen Louise Henderson Mangold of Lake Ozark, Missouri; six grandchildren, Stacey (David) Thomas of Manassas, Virginia, Melanie (Travis) Anderson of Cibolo, Texas, Amy (George) White of Dyersburg, Tennessee, Eric Speight of Cape Girardeau, Melissa Speight of St. Louis and Sarah Moore of Dexter; and eight great-grandchildren, Emma, Joel, Lydia and Meredith Thomas, Sydni and Sammy Anderson, Gwyneth Speight and Madeline White.

In addition to her husband and parents, two brothers, Neal Henderson and Jesse Henderson, preceded her in death.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until time of service Saturday at Lilbourn Methodist Church.

The memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the church. Mrs. Speight's son, the Rev. Gene Speight Jr., will officiate.
