Cape Girardeau man charged after police chase, crash

Michael J. Jones, 28, of Cape Girardeau faces one misdemeanor and two felony charges after a police chase through Cape Girardeau, where Jones is accused of running one car off the road and crashing into several parked cars.

Cape Girardeau Police Department public information officer Sgt. Adam Glueck said Jones tried to evade a sobriety checkpoint between Main Street and the Isle Casino Cape Girardeau shortly before 10 p.m.

Police pursued Jones as he drove north, hitting several parked vehicles in the process.

The suspect exited the crashed car and ran away.

Glueck said because the Street Crimes Task Force already was activated, officers from nearby departments such as Sikeston and Poplar Bluff and Cape Girardeau County sheriff’s deputies assisted in apprehending Jones a short time later in the 1000 block of Village Drive.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol also investigated.

Jones faces a felony charge of resisting a legal stop, a felony charge of possession of methamphetamine and a misdemeanor possession of marijuana charge.

His bond is set at $25,000 cash or surety.
