JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- A Republican donor is giving money to Democratic candidate for Missouri governor Chris Koster.

St. Louis businessman Sam Fox gave Koster, the state's current attorney general, $100,000 for his campaign Tuesday.

Koster's Republican opponent is first-time candidate and former Navy SEAL officer Eric Greitens.

Fox has given to candidates from both parties, but he tends to donate to Republicans. Fox had supported former GOP State Auditor Tom Schweich, who was running for governor when he killed himself in 2015.

Koster served as a Republican state senator until switching parties in 2007 and running for attorney general. Fox previously gave Koster $50,000 in 2012 during his bid for re-election.

Koster also has recently received endorsements from some of the state's top agricultural groups, which typically support Republicans.
