John Guild NSDAR

The John Guild Chapter, National Society, Daughters of the American Revolution met Sept. 21 at Wings Etc. in Jackson.

During the meeting, Marti Strickland, immediate past regent, was presented with a past regent pin.

There will be a membership workshop from 10 a.m. to noon on Oct. 22 at the Cape County Archives.

The next chapter meeting will be held at 11:30 a.m. Oct. 19 at Catapult Creative House, 612 Broadway in Cape Girardeau.

Torchbearer Iota Chapter

The Beta Sigma Phi Torchbearer Iota Chapter met Sept. 19 and 26.

The meeting on Sept. 19 was at the home of Bernie Gardner. It was reported that Linda Belote and Joyce Hayes attended the Beginning Day at the Glenn House on Aug. 27. The chapter received a three-star rating certificate for the sorority year of 2015-2016 (the highest possible) from the international office. President Dixie Jones shared that she had a "hole-in-one" at Kimbeland Country Club this summer and Patty Taylor shared that she ran in a half marathon and 5K recently. Taylor won first in the 60-plus division. After the meeting, Gardner gave a program on her trip to Northern France.

The meeting on Sept. 26 was at the home of Charlotte Bess. Service projects for the year were discussed at length. It was decided the chapter will choose five different projects and give items we bring, as well as monetary donations. Socials were discussed, and shows at the Fox Theatre in St. Louis were mentioned, as well as the River Campus, by the social committee of Joyce Hayes and Bobbie Woodard. Bess gave a program.

Eight members of the Cape Girardeau County FCE attended the 80th annual conference of the Missouri Association for Family and Community Education held Sept. 28 through 30 in Osage Beach, Missouri. Those attending were Mary Klaproth, MAFCE vice president; Sue Jones; Darlene McCain, Cape Girardeau County vice president; June Peetz; Jo Ann Hahs, Southeast District director; Barbara Barks, Cape Girardeau County president; and Betty Dellinger and Peggy Barks.

New state officers were elected, including vice president, Mary Klaproth. Programs were presented during the conference including scams, foraging for food, human trafficking and a program on England, where the ACWW meeting was held in August. The keynote speaker for the Thursday evening banquet was Bob Priddy, who spoke on women of Missouri.
