The congregation of Faith Tabernacle United Pentecostal Church honors the Rev. and Mrs. Doyle Randol for the 30 years they have been in ministry.

The Cape Girardeau City Council yesterday considered bids for new firetrucks, the apparent low bidder being Harris Truck and Trailer Sales Co. here, which will supply Mack trucks; the city plans to buy two 1,000-gallon pumpers to help meet the standards of the Missouri Inspection Bureau; the largest equipment the department now has is a 750-gallon pumper.

BENTON, Mo. -- A maroon 1965 Cadillac convertible was found near here yesterday afternoon, ending a two-day search for the car that was taken from a U.S. deputy marshal and a guard last Thursday by three escaping convicts; the car, covered with soybean plants and other foliage, was spotted from the air by Sgt. Jessie Murphy of the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

1941

On a velvet-covered throne platform, fronted by the crossbar and uprights of a football goal post, Earnedell Ashby of East St. Louis, Illinois, was crowned 1941 Football Queen of Teachers College at the annual Varsity Club dance Friday night at Houck Field House.

A new scale of barber prices goes into effect; there is no change in the price of a shave, which is 20 cents, but haircuts advance from 35 to 40 cents; this new price schedule also includes children's cuts.

1916

A strong resolution is adopted at an unusual meeting of the Cape Girardeau Commercial Club, requesting the city council put through measures that would extend Main Street south of Independence Street, so a beautiful thoroughfare may face the new Frisco passenger station on the west, instead of an alley.

A quick response by the fire department and heroic work after the men arrive saves the Bauer Brothers bakery on Broadway from being reduced to ashes; three minutes after an alarm is sent in, the fire wagon and men arrive on the scene; they extinguish the flames in a matter of minutes; the blaze originated in the bake room, just behind the oven.
