MARBLE HILL, Mo. -- Mary Imogene VanGennip, 81, of Marble Hill passed away Friday, Nov. 18, 2016, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

She was born March 30, 1935, at Little Valley, Missouri, the daughter of Leo and Bertie Jane Masnsker Stowers. Her stepfather was Joe VanGennip.

Imogene had worked for the Inland Shoe factory in Advance, Missouri. She later worked as a supervisor for 27 years at the Marble Hill Hat factory before retiring. She also had been a homemaker. She is a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Glennon, Missouri. Imogene was very active in her community and church.

She loved the St. Louis Cardinals, playing bingo and watching area high-school basketball games. In her early years, she loved watching her husband, Norman, play baseball.

Imogene loved taking care of her family and looked forward to cooking Sunday meals for them. She loved cooking and canning.

Imogene and Norman VanGennip were united in marriage June 13, 1953, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Glennon and he survives of the home.

Survivors include her husband, Norman VanGennip; a son, Danny (Olga) VanGennip of Marble Hill; two daughters, Beverly (Johnny) Johnson of Marble Hill and Cathy Prost of Cape Girardeau; a daughter-in-law, Tammy Ziegler VanGennip of Advance; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and three more great-grandchildren on the way.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, David VanGennip; and a brother, Bob VanGennip.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Morgan Funeral Chapel in Advance with parish prayers at 7 p.m.

A funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Glennon, with Father William Hennecke, Father David Coon, Father Glen Eftink and Father Randy Tochtrop officiating. Burial will follow at St. Anthony Cemetery in Glennon.
