The Missouri State Highway Patrol said Crowley failed to negotiate a turn on Route B near Hillsboro and lost control. His car crossed the center line and was struck by another car and knocked into a ditch. The other driver is hospitalized with moderate injuries.

Hillsboro responded to a rescue call after the accident, but there was nothing they could do to save Crowley. Assistant chief Brian Gaudet said Crowley died almost instantly after the accident.
