William J. "Bill" Wade, 94, of Cape Girardeau, formerly of Tamms, Illinois, and Gardena, California, passed away at 1:25 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2016, at Life Care Center. He was born Nov. 27, 1922, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the son of Francis G. and Sarah Grace Roberts Wade. He married Marguerite on Oct. 30, 1964, and she preceded him in death June 30, 2009...

William J. "Bill" Wade, 94, of Cape Girardeau, formerly of Tamms, Illinois, and Gardena, California, passed away at 1:25 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2016, at Life Care Center.

He was born Nov. 27, 1922, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the son of Francis G. and Sarah Grace Roberts Wade. He married Marguerite on Oct. 30, 1964, and she preceded him in death June 30, 2009.

Bill was retired from the city of Los Angeles Water and Power Department, where he worked in communications. He was a proud Navy veteran of World War II and a life member of Veterans of Foreign War Post 3838 in Gardena. He was also a charter member of Moose Lodge 2062 in Gardena.

He is survived by his stepchildren, Emma Dell (Charles) Bennett of Tamms, Shirley Jane Hamilton of Bonners Ferry, Idaho, Sammy (Dennis) Thompson of St. Louis, Perry (Carmela) Hazelwood of Tamms and Melvin (Joyce) Hazelwood of Fordyce, Arkansas; sister, Gwendolyn "Pat" (Wade) Ables of Honolulu; nephew, Joe Able of Honolulu; nieces, Linda (Paul) Jorgensen of Sun City Center, Florida, and Pamela Owens of Los Angeles; two great-nieces; three great-nephews; four great-great-nephews; and two great-great-nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marguerite Wade; and sister, Elizabeth "Bettye" (Wade) Layton.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at Crain Funeral Home in Tamms.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Tom Bridges officiating. Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery, with military honors by area veterans.
