Two Notre Dame High School faculty members have been lauded for longevity of service to the Diocese of Springfield-Cape Girardeau; Sister S. Raynald Blomer and Cynthia King each have received pins for 20 years of service.

Playing in the 47th annual University High Christmas Tournament last night, third-seeded Jackson ran its game to precision, knocking off second-seeded Scott County Central High 55-42 at the Show Me Center; the Scott Central defeat ended the nation's second-longest current winning streak at 63 games, which was also the second-longest winning streak in state history.

The Missouri-Pacific Railroad, which earlier had withheld part of this year's school tax as billed in Cape Girardeau County, completes the payment in the morning; the railroad had paid an amount $1,087.72 less than was carried on the tax bill; the St. Louis and Southwestern (Cotton Belt) Railroad also paid less than was billed.

Oscar Hirsch, president of Hirsch Broadcasting Co., announces plans for the construction of a new building in the 300 block of Broadway; the structure, which will include a 13-story tower, will house KFVS-TV.

1941

SIKESTON, Mo. -- Aviation Cadet Richard A. Reid, 24, of White Plains, New York, is instantly killed at 7:55 a.m. when his PT-18 Stearman trainer plane goes into a spin from an altitude of 300 to 400 feet and crashes on an auxiliary landing field 2 1/2 miles north of here; the cadet, with other members of his class, was making practice landings on the field under the eyes of instructors.

The Cape Girardeau County Selective Service Board has been advised by state headquarters no further information is to be released for publication on quotas and calls; consequently, the Southeast Missourian newspaper, unless the order is rescinded, won't report the date men are to leave, the number in the contingent nor the names of the selectees as in the past.

William H. Lewis of Scott County is appointed state labor commissioner by Gov. E.W. Major; Lewis, who is owner of a newspaper at Benton, Missouri, was the author of several labor bills while a member of the state Legislature.

The funeral of Henrietta L. Grueneburg, wife of Otto Grueneburg, will be Sunday at the family residence, 224 S. Pacific St.; she died suddenly at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Robert Volkerding, in Gordonville last night at age 64; she was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Hartung.
