Glen Smart, 84, of Cape Girardeau passed away Friday, Jan. 6, 2017, at Saint Francis Medical Center. Glen Smart, 84, of Cape Girardeau passed away Friday, Jan. 6, 2017, at Saint Francis Medical Center.

He was born Aug. 9, 1932, in Rector, Arkansas, to the late William Holens and Edith Eron (Hickman) Smart.

Glen was a graduate of Campbell (Missouri) High School and received bachelor's degrees in teaching and zoology from Southeast Missouri State University and a master's degree in zoology from the University of Missouri in Columbia.

He married Patricia Ann Thompson on Aug. 18, 1957, in Campbell.

After college, Glen was an aerial photographer in the U.S. Air Force for four years. From 1965 until retirement in 1990, he worked as a research biologist for the United States Fish and Wildlife Service's endangered-species division. He enjoyed wood carving, taxidermy work and anything to do with nature and the outdoors.

He was a member of the Cape Church of Christ.

Loving survivors include his wife of 59 years, Patricia Smart of Cape Girardeau; sons, Michael (Emily) Smart of Cape Girardeau and Phillip Smart of Crownsville, Maryland; granddaughters, Megan and Allison Smart; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Doyle Smart; and sisters Vada Smart and Freeda Ricks.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.

Funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, with Pastor Jordan Bishop officiating.

Burial with full military honors will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Campbell.
